Nen/念 – Mind in the Present
The Japanese word for Mindfulness is 念 – NEN.
The Kanji is composed of two parts.
The top part is the Kanji 今 – “ima” which means “Now”. The bottom part is the Kanji 心 – “kokoro” which refers to the “Heart/Mind”.
It is a beautiful combination of characters which allude to the state of the Mind in the Present.
In the practice of Calligraphy, each stroke of the brush is a reflection of the state of Mind in this present moment.
Once captured on paper, the black ink remains permanently. It is a mark of the state of the mind in the Now.
This small limited collection of marbled porcelain pieces has been inspired by the flow and focus of the Mind in the practice of Calligraphy.
