Shoshin/初心 – Beginner’s Mind
Shoshin is a word from Zen Buddhism which means “Beginner’s Mind”.
As a beginner, your mind is empty and open. Without preconceptions. Without biases. With an openness and willingness for possibility.
Living with a Beginner’s Mind is a practice of seeing things with fresh eyes and an open mind. As if seeing for the first time.
These pieces of dark stoneware ceramics were all hand-built during the home quarantine period of March – April 2020, with a small selection of tools available at home with the idea of approaching ceramics making use of the most basic methods of hand-building.
To see things with fresh eyes and an open mind, as a beginner in ceramics and in life.
